Autumn Woods

When skies are bright and fields are brown
And autumn leaves come drifting down,
All gold and red beneath our tread
In ev'ry woodland way.

October's bright blue sky over meadows brown.

Then all the sturdy forest trees
Bestow their gifts with ev'ry breeze;
Oh, that's the time the world's in rime
And life's a golden day.

In October's sparkling air,
The russet land is strangely fair,
By ev'ry way our feet may stray
We follow pleasure's call.

Iolanthe Rising From The Water
William Russell Flint
(1880-1969)

We love the spring's alluring grace,
And welcome summer's warm embrace,
But, oh, far more we love the store
Of autumn best of all.

from the opera, "Iolanthe"
