Pumpkin Kitties
Persis Clayton Weirs
Oh, some may sing of the month of May
Or June or dark December,
And some may favor the bright blue day
That is part of sweet September,
But I have my choice, I lift my voice,
In praise of a month of glory
When clear is the sky and the hours go by
Like knights in an olden story.
October, October!
She scores a raiment sober;
She strides instead in the gold and red,
The Queen of the Year,
October! October, October!
For maidens fair is the month of May
And June for brides of beauty;
Each month has claim, and a right to fame,
For delight in play or duty.
But here is a joy for man and boy;
Vacation days are ended,
And over the hill with a royal will
Comes the queen of the seasons splendid.
October! October!
The brightest hues en-robe her.
Her praise we'll sing till the red woods ring,
The Queen of the Year,
October, October, October!
