Second Sunday Meditation: In The Watches Of The Night

Whenever fear and anxiety tries to rules the night,
I know I can always find calm assurance and relief
in the words of the Master Who reigns in my heart.

Fear Not!

"So do not worry or be anxious about tomorrow,
for tomorrow will have worries and anxieties of its own.
Sufficient for each day is its own trouble."
Matthew 6:34

"Now when they take you to court and put you under
arrest, do not be anxious beforehand about what you are
to say, nor even meditate about it; but say whatever is
given you in that hour and at the moment, for it is not
you who will be speaking, but the Holy Spirit."
Mark 13:11

"Consider the lilies, how they grow. They neither toil
nor spin nor weave; yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his
glory was not arrayed like one of these.  But if God so
clothes the grass in the field, which is alive today, and
tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, how much more
will He clothe you, O you people of little faith?
Luke 12:27-28

"Jesus said to her, I am the Resurrection and the Life.
Whoever believes in Me, although they may die, yet shall they live;
And whoever continues to live and believes in Me shall never die at all.
Do you believe this?
John 11:25-26

"Wait for and expect the Lord and keep and heed His way,
and He will exalt you to inherit the land; in the end when the
wicked are cut off, you shall see it."
Psalm 37:34

"Cast your burden on the Lord and He will sustain you;
He will never allow the consistently righteous to be moved."
Psalm 55:22

"Anxiety in a person's heart weighs it down, but an
encouraging word makes it glad."
Proverbs 12:25

"A glad heart makes a cheerful countenance,
but by sorrow of heart the spirit is broken."
Proverbs 15:13

"A happy heart is good medicine and a cheerful mind
works healing, but a broken spirit dries up the bones."
Proverbs 17:22

"Fear not, there is nothing to fear, for I am with you;
do not look around you in terror and be dismayed, for
I am your God. I will strengthen and harden you to difficulties,
yes, I will help you; yes, I will hold you up and retain you
with My victorious right hand of rightness and justice.
Behold, all they who are enraged and inflamed against
you shall be put to shame and confounded; they who
strive against you shall be as nothing and shall perish.
You shall seek those who contend with you but shall
not find them; they who war against you shall be as
nothing, as nothing at all."
Isaiah 41:10-12

"But no weapon that is formed against you shall
prosper, and every tongue that shall rise against you in
judgment you shall show to be in the wrong. This is the
heritage of the servants of the Lord, those in whom the
ideal Servant of the Lord is reproduced; this is the
righteousness or the vindication which they obtain
from Me, this is what I impart to them as their
justification, says the Lord."
Isaiah 54:17

"Then said I,  "Ah, Lord God!
 Behold, I cannot speak, for I am only a youth."
But the Lord said to me, "Say not, I am only a youth;
for you shall go to all to whom I shall send you, and
whatever I command you, you shall speak.
Be not afraid of them (their faces) for I am
with you to deliver you, says the Lord.
Then the Lord put forth His hand and touched
my mouth. And the Lord said to me,
"Behold, I have put My words in your mouth."
Jeremiah 1:6-9

"And one night the Lord said to Paul in a vision,
Have no fear, but speak and do not keep silent.
For I am with you, and no man shall assault you
to harm you, for I have many people in this city."
Acts 18:9-10

"Do not fret or have anxiety about anything, but in
every circumstance and in everything, by prayer and petition,
definite requests, with thanksgiving, continue to make
known your wants to God."
Philippians 4:6

"Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God,
that in due time He may exalt you, Casting the whole of your care,
all your anxieties, all your worries, all your concerns, once and for all
on Him, for He cares for you affectionately and cares about you, watchfully.
1 Peter 5:6-7

"And when Jesus went into Peter's house, He saw his
mother-in-law lying ill with a fever. He touched her hand
and the fever left her; and she got up and began waiting on Him."
Matthew 8:14-15

THE MASTER'S TOUCH

He touched her hand and the fever left her;
He touched her hand as only He can,
With the wondrous skill of the Great Physician,
With the tender touch of the Son of Man;

And the eyes, when the fever-light had faded,
Looked up, by her grateful tears made dim;
And she rose and ministered in His household,
She rose and ministered unto Him.

Ah! many a life is one long fever-
A fever of anxious suspense and care;
A fever of getting, a fever of fretting,
A fever of hurrying here and there.

Ah! what if the winning the praise of others
We miss at the last the King's "Well done!"
If our self sought tasks in the Master's vineyard
Yield nothing but leaves at set of sun.

Whatever the fever, His touch can heal it;
Whatever the tempest, His voice can still;
There is only joy as we seek His pleasure,
There is only rest as we choose His will.

And some day, after life's fitful fever,
I think we shall say, in the home on high,
If the hands that He touched but did His bidding,
How little it matters what else went by!

Lord, touch our hands, let the fever leave us;
And so shall we minister unto Thee.
