October Is The Time Of The Hunter's Moon

From between the breaks

in the clouds that trail

on the autumn wind

leaks through the moon-

light's clear brightness

The Full Hunter's Moon marks the time  after the harvest
when  deer are more likely to wander out in the open
to glean in the empty fields or eat the windfall fruit in the orchards,
making them an easy target for hunters.
Waterfowl and wild turkey are also hunted in the fields
and marshlands at this time of the year.
